What Happens When You Don't Treat Cockroaches Immediately

February 15, 2017

cockroach found in pantry

We get a lot of correspondence from our customers, and from potential customers as well. In them we see something that comes up quite a bit in regards to cockroach infestations. It usually sounds something like: "We started seeing cockroaches in the kitchen and now they have moved throughout the entire house!" If you can relate to this statement, then this article is for you.

Did you start seeing cockroaches in your cellar and now they're in your bedrooms? Did you start seeing cockroaches in your pantry and now they are climbing out of the air conditioner in the living room--and racing up your walls a top speed? Does it seem like cockroaches began in one area of your home and are now in every room? There are two reasons for this.

  1. Cockroaches are usually first seen in places where there is a food source, or moisture. When you start to see roaches, it will usually be in the kitchen, pantry, or food storage area. Roaches will also be drawn to areas of moisture. If you have a cellar or crawl space, roaches will be drawn to them. It is even worse if these are combined. If you have a food storage area that is moist and dark, cockroaches will love you for it.

  2. Cockroaches multiply like crazy. Roaches are prolific breeders. While there is some debate as to how many cockroaches can be produced in a home by a single female, there is no debate that it is exponential. One females gives birth to more females, and they give birth to more... As the population grows, these cockroaches must search more and more for food resources. Population growth will force these pests into areas of the home they are not comfortable with, and lead to more sightings as well.

If a cockroach infestation isn't dealt with immediately, it won't take long for that infestation to spread to other areas of a home. Worse still, when a cockroach population grows too large, those roaches may begin to bite the occupants of your home. These are omnivores that can eat flesh. Most often, they will target eyelashes and leave a bite on an eyelid that swells up. But looking like Rocky Balboa at the end of a boxing match is the least of your problems. Cockroaches can spread illness throughout a home.
