The Time For Occasional Invaders
July 24, 2019
With summertime come the rains. When the rains arrive they tend to force some pests to come inside. These pests that live and breed in the leaf litter, mulch, and other outdoor areas are referred to as “occasional invaders” as they typically stay outdoors until they are disturbed. Heavy rains or extended dry periods cause these pests to move. Basically, any type of extreme weather whether very dry or wet causes movement. These pests are found throughout South Florida in Indian River, St Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Dade, and Monroe counties.
The best way to keep these pests out is with exclusion. Good quality door sweeps, caulking around exterior cracks and crevices, and tight- fitting screens are a great help. Nozzle Nolen can also do perimeter treatments and offer advice on reducing leaf litter and other breeding areas.
These are some of the occasional invaders you may come across in your South Florida home:
- Sow Bugs
- Pill Bugs
