mosquito bite

One of the best parts about living in Tequesta is the great weather that allows us to spend a great deal of time outdoors. But there is nothing more annoying at the outdoor barbecue than being interrupted repeatedly by the sound of mosquitoes buzzing and the sting of their bites! Whenever we try to spend time outdoors with the family in Tequesta, we face having to swat away mosquitoes or have to go inside to escape their bites. Not only are these pests annoying, but they're also extremely dangerous. Mosquitoes can transmit serious illnesses to humans, pets, and livestock. The mosquito species living in Florida can transmit diseases that cause mild to severe symptoms, including West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, and St. Louis encephalitis. Other mosquito-borne diseases happen in other parts of the world and then as people return to Florida and get bit by mosquitoes, those mosquitoes can go on to infect other people. These diseases include malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, and chikungunya fever – among others.

There are no fool-proof methods for completely eliminating mosquitoes from our yards, but there are a number of things we can do to reduce our risks for getting bit by mosquitoes and therefore, decrease our risks for contracting a mosquito-borne illness. To reduce breeding, eliminate all sources of standing water on your property. You can find water inside old tires laying around, buckets, flower pots, the kiddie pool and toys, and pretty much anything that's sealed and allows water to collect! Since mosquito eggs hatch in just seven to ten days, it is extremely important to remove standing water as soon as you discover it. Don't forget to make sure your gutters are working properly, or they will collect water as well. When you are spending time outdoors, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to minimize the amount of exposed skin. Mosquitoes can bite through clothing but are more likely to target exposed skin. Wear a bug spray with DEET to further discourage mosquitoes from getting close and landing on you.

To significantly reduce the number of mosquitoes on your property you need professional mosquito control. Nozzle Nolen will visit your home and look for areas that allow mosquitoes to breed. We'll identify and eliminate them. Next, we inspect the property to find likely areas where mosquitoes will rest during the day and then treat them with our mosquito fogger. We treat shrubs, bushes, and any other areas that look like common mosquito resting grounds. The fogger will eliminate any mosquitoes currently in the area as well as prevent future populations flying around the area.

If you're planning a one-time outdoor event, give us a call for a one-time mosquito treatment! We want your outdoor wedding, graduation party or other events to be special, and they won't be successful if you're guests are spending all of their time swatting mosquitoes!
