How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs in My Hypoluxo Home
May 1, 2018
Hypoluxo is a city on the Gold Coast of Florida; just a few steps away from the warm, sandy beaches. A relaxing beach town like Hypoluxo deserves to be pest free, don’t you agree? Sadly, that’s not always the case. Even the most beautiful and relaxing places have pest issues. Here’s how you can get rid of bugs in your Hypoluxo home.
In order to know how to get rid of bed bugs, you should first know how they get into your home.
Bed bugs hitchhike from place to place and are usually found in gatherings. They will latch onto items like suitcases, your clothing, or your shoes, and enjoy a free ride to the next couch or mattress. They can also be picked up in cars, buses, and hotels. Once they have arrived in their new location, they will usually hide throughout the day until they come out to feed at night. Even though they’re getting their meals from the humans laying on the couch or on the bed upstairs, bed bugs can still be found in baseboards, wallpapers, and even on the furniture. After feeding, bed bugs will hide in these areas around your home to digest their meals and begin reproducing. This can cause a larger infestation. The scary thing about bed bugs is that you may not know you have an infestation until it gets out of control.
Prevention and Protection
Now you know where they’re coming from, let’s talk about how to prevent and get rid of bed bugs.
Bed bugs are hitchhikers, moving from place to place, on you or other items you are bringing into your home. Here’s a few preventative measures you can take to eliminate your chances of bringing home bed bugs.
When traveling, carry a small flashlight with you so you can inspect the bed you are sleeping in. Look under the mattress cover, dust ruffles, and behind the headboard. If you don’t have a flashlight or forget one, you can always use the flashlight on your phone.
After traveling, wash your clothes right away and dry them on high heat.
Don’t bring in second-hand items like furniture without a proper inspection.
Regularly inspect your home for signs of bed bugs
Bed bug infestations can only be removed with professional treatment. Any self-treatment will only postpone the issue, which can eventually grow into a larger problem.
Bed Bug Treatments
Let’s talk about how your bed bug problems can be treated. There are two types of treatments, a heat treatment and a fumigation treatment.
A structural fumigation is the same process as when treating for termites. This specific treatment is better used for larger infestations and for single-unit homes. If an apartment is going to be fumigated, the whole structure would have to undergo the treatment at the same time. This treatment takes 3 days to complete.
A heat treatment is the most effective bed bug treatment. Bed bugs cannot “stand the heat”. The heat treatment can be used in both single-unit and multi-unit homes. The process takes about 8 to 10 hours, and you can be back in your bed by the end of the night, bed bug free! The heat treatment is most successful in homes with less clutter. This is because the heat has the room it needs to penetrate the area and work its magic.
