Boca Residents: How to Properly Care for Your Lawn
August 1, 2017
We always want to keep the inside of our home clean and tidy. When we have our family and friends over, we feel obligated as a host to present them with a sparkling, pleasantly smelling venue. But do we ever think of “wowing” them with the exterior of our house? Are the trees and hedges full of life? Is our lawn green and patch-free? Of course, we do! After all, the habit of judging a book by its cover is hard to break. We want to present ourselves as the best we can be! I’m here to help you with that. Here is a course of action that you can take as a homeowner to improve your lawn to that “wow” level.
When taking care of your lawn, there are a few easy steps you can take in order to keep from damaging your turf. The first stress on lawns is the mowing process. There are different types of blades of grass and it is important to mow each type of grass the correct length in order to get the best out of your turf. For Bahia grass and St. Augustine grass, the proper length to mow is between 3 ½ to 4 inches. Zoysia grass should be cut to 2 inches. It is important to always use a sharp blade when mowing and remember to leave the clippings.
Irrigation is something to pay close attention to when maintaining your lawn. Too much or too little water can damage your turf. It is suggested that you irrigate ¾ inches of water each time. This is equal to about 45 minutes on an average watering system. You should only water your lawn when needed. If you have difficulties deciding when to water there are some signs to look for. The blades of the grass have started to fold or curl, there is discoloring, or there are footprints left after walking through the grass. The best time to water your lawn is during the early morning hours between 4 AM and 8 AM. This is the best time of day because it will give your turf a chance to dry during the day. If your lawn is too wet there is the possibility of attracting fungus.
If you are already using a Nozzle Nolen lawn program, we suggest that you do not fertilize your turf with your own products. Too much of the “good stuff” could cause the blades to burn and damage your lawn. With the Nozzle Nolen lawn care, you should allow a full growing season before you look for results. During warmer months of the year, you should start to see the results around 30 days. In the cooler months, results will begin to show around 120 days after the start of the program.
Nozzle Nolen’s Super Turf Lawn Program will restore your grass and protect your lawn from pets, weeds, and fungus. We use the best environmentally friendly fertilizer that will produce a healthy lawn while eliminating the weeds.
