Ants Love Florida
November 10, 2016
In our service area of West Palm Beach and throughout southeastern Florida, we get calls to deal with ants all the time. In spring, summer, fall, and even winter, ants can be a problem
Fire ants drive people crazy in their yards with frustrating little, fiery bites. Carpenter ants eat away at houses, porches, decks, sheds, and other structures. Crazy ants get into electronics, climb up inside cars and trucks, and invade places by the thousands. Ghost ants, white-footed ants, bigheaded ants, and other pest ants, form trails along carpets and baseboards to get into food storage, mob trash cans, and other places, where they can get a bite to eat. And, with the tropical climate here in southeastern Florida, most of these ants can be a problem most of the year.
Why can ants be year-round pests? Ants don't hibernate. While they are cold-blooded creatures and will go into a state of dormancy if it gets too cold, they will spring back to life when temperatures warm up. Even if those temperatures only warm up for a day.
Food sources are also more scarce at the end of fall and into winter. So, ants are more likely to invade homes this time of year. If you accidentally leave something out that these creatures consider to be food, they will be quick to take advantage of it. And, if the food in your pantry, cabinets, or storage areas are not properly sealed, you could find them swarming with ants. It doesn't take much to bring ants into a home by the thousands. All it take is one scout ant to find a food source.
Ants are a year-round problem, and for a year-round problem, you need a year-round solution. Do you know that when you have a pest plan that deals with disease-spreading cockroaches, rodents, you can also be protecting your home from nuisance ants like ghost ants, pharaoh ants, black crazy ants, and white-footed ants?
